Membership & Content Restriction

Turn any WordPress site into a members area. Restrict pages and posts to logged-in users or members, with a front-end registration form, login, and a members directory — from three shortcodes and a box in the post editor. No cap on free members.

What the free plugin does

Restrict any content

Every page and post gets an “Access & Membership” box: leave it public, limit it to logged-in users, or limit it to members. Editors and admins always see everything.

Unlimited free members

Register as many members as you like. No cap, no per-member fee, no upgrade prompt when you cross an arbitrary line.

Front-end registration and login

[rsmb_register] drops a sign-up form on any page and [rsmb_login] a login form, so members never have to see wp-admin.

Members directory

[rsmb_directory] lists your members with avatars and optional short bios.

Set the members-only message, the accent colour and the post-join redirect from one settings screen. Restricted content is replaced with your message inside the normal page — no fatal errors, no white screens, no theme conflicts.

Why it works this way

Most membership plugins do one of three things: cap your free members, put basic content restriction behind a paywall, or take over the site with their own pages and templates. Each of those is a decision made for the vendor rather than for you.

This one keeps the essentials free and works with the pages you already have. There is no page-builder lock-in, and nothing about your theme has to change. If you uninstall it, your content is still your content.

Membership Pro — when you want to charge for it

The free plugin restricts content and registers members. Pro adds the part that makes money: selling membership.

Paid plans through WooCommerce

Mark any WooCommerce product as a membership plan and price it. Buyers become members the moment the order is paid.

Access that expires

Give a plan a length in days and membership lapses on schedule — which is what turns a one-off sale into a renewal. Renewing early adds to the time remaining instead of throwing it away. Set 0 days for lifetime access.

Tiers

Name a tier on a plan, then limit any page or post to that tier from the “Required membership tier” box. Leave it empty and any member gets in.

Your gateway, your money

Membership sells through the WooCommerce checkout you already have. No card data or payment API key touches this plugin, and there is no revenue share.

Expiry and tiers apply only while licensed. If the licence lapses, members stay members — the plugin degrades to the free behaviour rather than locking people out of content they paid for.

What is in the download

Buying Membership Pro gets you both plugins — the Pro add-on and the free Membership & Content Restriction plugin it builds on. Upload both zips and everything works; there is nothing to source separately.

Stated plainly: the free plugin is not in the WordPress.org directory yet, so searching for it from inside WordPress will not find it. That is worth knowing if you came here for the free plugin on its own — tell us and we will let you know when it lands there.

What you need

WordPress 6.5 or newer and PHP 7.4 or newer. Pro additionally needs WooCommerce, active with a payment gateway, because that is what takes the payment — there is no separate checkout to configure and no payment keys to paste anywhere.

Both are GPL. Pro is licensed per site through the plugin’s own settings screen.
